Grizzlies’ Mike Conley Explains His Passion for Sickle Cell Treatment

0129_masp_griz11Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley handed out a big-time assist earlier this week when he accepted a $15,000 donation for Methodist Healthcare Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center.

Orion Federal Credit Union wrote the check on Conley’s behalf for his long-time support of sickle cell treatment.

Methodist Healthcare Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center runs a preventive outpatient clinic and Memphis’ first dedicated emergency infusion unit for sickle cell patients. The center is focused on delivering treatment advances through on-site research.

This is what Conley had to say when asked about his passion for sickle cell treatment, “Growing up you find something that you’re passionate about. You think that hopefully there’s a day when you grow up you can do something about it. Sickle cell is one of those things I’ve always wanted to help out with. It’s really deep because my family has a couple of people with the disease. So it’s been a passion of mine to help not only them but people around the City of Memphis and the world.”
