Mission: MTS Sickle Cell Foundation Inc. is proud to sponsor Munah in her summer dance education. We are a not-for-profit organization who seek to raise awareness, education, and research pertaining to sickle cell anemia as well as provide support to families affected by this life-threatening disease. We are excited to team up with 12-year-old Munah who has chosen to incorporate community service into her summer dance fundraising goals. Having spent countless nights in ICUs and emergency rooms because of her ongoing battle with asthma, Munah identifies with the struggles of wanting to lead a normal life while battling a chronic disease. Together, we hope to inspire little girls to continue to fight through obstacles in order to achieve their dreams! MTS Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. is recognized as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. 100% of your donation is tax-deductible. Our Federal Tax ID number or Employer Identification Number (EIN) is 47-4594496.

Goal: To raise funds and in-kind donations to assist Munah towards attending a three-week dance education workshop at the famous “Steps on Broadway” in New York City while giving back to sickle cell awareness!

Workshop dates: July 30th – August 17, 2019

About the Scholarship: At the beginning of this dance season, Munah attended the New York City Dance Alliance (NYCDA) dance Convention and competition in Houston. After a long weekend that included over thirteen hours of classes (ballet, jazz, Contemporary,  hip-hop, and tap),  and ten hours of competition in which she competed eleven dances,  Munah earned three scholarships!! One of those scholarships was a four hundred dollar ($400.00) credit towards the “Steps On Broadway” three week summer dance intensive in New York, no audition necessary!

Fundraising Goal: We hope you can help us bring this little girl's dreams to reality by contributing towards her the training that will enhance her dance career. Our goal is to raise $5500.00 to cover the remainder of the cost of the dance intensive:

  • $2300.00, Cost of a three-week workshop after $400.00 scholarship
  • $3,000.00 approximate room and board for three weeks
  • Travel from Houston to New York.
  • We are asking in kind donations also; for example, hotel points or flight points, apparel, etc.

Munah is so passionate about this opportunity, she will be conducting car washes, running a lemonade stand in her neighborhood, conducting a shoe drive for The Krause House, a local girl’s home in Katy that hosts and educates abused young girls from around Texas, documenting the events of her workshop on social media and thanking her sponsors! Last year, as a fundraiser to attend the Debbie Allen summer intensive, we conducted barbecue sales, car washes, and worked with The Krause House to conduct a shoe drive for the girls.

About Munah: Munah is 12 years old and is in the 7th grade. She is a company dancer at Topflight Dance Center in Richmond, TX.  Academically, Munah maintains a 97% average while taking 9th Grade level honors Math and Science. She is a part of the gifted and talented program and was selected a Duke Scholar. Being a Duke Scholar allows her to sit for the SAT’s early next year!! We are very proud of Munah’s work ethic. Besides dancing, Munah loves reading, cooking, sewing, and outdoor adventures. She has been excelling in dance and have won several scholarships that has taken her around the country. Last year she participated in the Dancer of the year program at Streetz Dance and was selected to be a part of their 2019 Junior company. Munah will be volunteering at Camp Crescent Moon as a dance assistant and holding a shoe drive for the Krause House in Katy, TX. As a requirement of this prestigious program, Munah will also be travelling to five cities including Tampa, Fl, and Chicago, IL to serve as apprentice to the instructors.

Thank you for supporting your local community member in helping her follow her dreams!
