– Internship Role –
The Communications Internship is a great opportunity for an individual hoping to pursue a career in communications, public relations, non-profit management, and/or public affairs. Interns would work closely with a team of experienced communications professionals and learn the skills needed to excel in the non-profit sector.
A valued and supported member of the team, the Communications Intern will have real responsibilities and impact, alongside the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of communications in the non-profit setting.
– ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –
- Draft and edit creative content including articles, graphics and promotional materials for use across various platforms
- Creating content for MTS Sickle Cell Foundation’s website and social media in coordination with the Communications team
- Assist with planning and outreach activities for events and campaigns
- Collaborate with program staff to gather stories, images and quotes from patients and caregivers
- Assisting in interactive campaigns across multiple platforms, including social media
- Participating in brainstorming and team meetings
- Completing research and administrative tasks as needed
- Assist with managing MTS Sickle Cell Foundation’s blog as well as collaborating with our Social Media Guru in building a dynamic social media schedule and visual presence
- Designing and developing evergreen content
- Assist members of the team with follow up and general office duties as needed
– Qualifications –
- Interest in MTS Sickle Cell Foundation's mission of raising awareness, support, and sensitivity surrounding Sickle Cell Disease
- Pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Non-profit Management or Public Affairs
- Experience in communications, journalism, graphic design or comparable skills
- Confident and creative visual storyteller with strong attention to detail
- Excellent writing and interpersonal skills
- Experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and storytelling
- Basic graphic design skills and ability to learn new technologies, including familiarity with adobe creative suite and/or canva
- Strong organizational skills
- Willingness to learn and expand current skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects and manage time efficiently, flexibility and initiative
- Strong work ethic
- A sense of humor and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Website (WordPress), MailChimp, Google Analytics, Photoshop and video editing experience a plus

– Internship Role –
- Working with the Head of Operations to create a database of potential grants and timelines for the entire grant writing process.
- Create and maintain a Grant Calendar which shows when a grant application and/or report is due and the contact information.
- Review funder websites, printed application guidelines and determine appropriateness of potential funder
- Identify areas of needs where a grant would help solve a problem or fill a need.
- Research and help write, review and edit all affiliate grant proposals (both private foundations and government grants)
- Evaluate grant writing strategy to adapt to the organizations new strategic plan
- Learn how to communicate with interested parties about what we do via phone and email.
- Develop a list of suppliers who work with MTS Sickle Cell Foundation
- Attend community, career, and fundraising events with MTS Sickle Cell Foundation team to share information with attendees about what we do and how to get involved.
- Engage media on MTS Sickle Cell Foundation activities
– Qualifications –
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Knowledge of funding requirements and ideally previous grant writing experience is preferred
- Experience in the sickle cell advocacy is preferred
- Experience in quantitative data analysis and presentation preferred
- Able to work with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook) and can pick up new technological skills easily
- Organized and is a self-starter
- Reliable in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to thrive in a start-up environment

- Tasks include replying to applicant`s emails, screening replies, and scheduling interviews by senior HR staff
- Post internships on general career websites, university, and college career websites, and internship websites
- Develop relationships with universities and colleges that have intern programs

– Qualifications –
- Studying for or recently received a degree in HR, Journalism, Business, Arts, or any programs providing strong English language training or candidates with strong English language skills.

– Internship Role –
We’re seeking a Public Relations Intern to help us raise the public profile of our organization and its programs across various media. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Drafting and designing different types of PR content (e.g. media announcements, social media posts, etc.)
- Media outreach
- Maintaining contact databases
- Supporting our overall PR efforts
Applicants must be motivated to work independently and meet target weekly and monthly PR goals.
Qualified applicants have considerable marketing and networking experience and are self-starting, goal-oriented, innovative thinkers. As this is a work-from-home position, applicants must have dependable Internet/email access.
