Event Summary

With over 340 registrants and about 200 attendees joining both in person and virtually, the MTS Sickle Cell Foundation convened patients, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, advocates, and industry leaders for the Sickle Cell Disease Therapeutics Summit—an impactful gathering centered on advancing equitable care and innovation in sickle cell disease. It created a dynamic space for shared learning, meaningful dialogue, and collective reflection on the current and future landscape of sickle cell therapeutics.

The program was thoughtfully designed to bridge clinical insight with lived experience, ensuring that scientific advancements were grounded in the realities of the communities they aim to serve. Conversations throughout the day highlighted the rapid pace of innovation—from emerging therapies to curative approaches—while reinforcing the importance of access, trust, and patient-centered care.

Equally important was the intentional focus on community. The summit fostered an environment where patients and families felt seen, heard, and included in discussions that directly impact their lives. Dedicated spaces, such as the Children’s Warrior Zone, further emphasized a holistic approach to care—one that recognizes the importance of support, engagement, and dignity for the entire family.

At its core, the summit underscored a shared commitment: that progress in sickle cell disease is not driven by science alone, but through collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and lived experiences.

The insights and connections formed during this convening will continue to inform and shape ongoing efforts to expand access, accelerate innovation, and improve outcomes for individuals living with sickle cell disease.
