THE hangout

A support group for individuals impacted by Sickle Cell Disease.

As families face the overwhelming burden of a Sickle Cell Disease diagnosis and the added stress of the COVID-19 pandemic, MTS Sickle Cell Foundation has put together a Zoom support group as a supplement to our Community Health Worker Program.

This support group is opened to the global Sickle Cell Disease community.

This program is made possible by a research grant from The GBT Foundation.

MEET OUR FACILTATOR

Taisha Mathieu serves as the Health and Wellness Coordinator of MTS Sickle Cell Foundation.

She is a very dedicated, determined, and compassionate individual. She has experience working in clinical and healthcare environments with an emphasis on client/patient service and support.

She has taught students about public health awareness and the importance of fostering positive attitudes towards themes and others. She has received her certification for Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and is currently a mental health aide. She wants to make sure to constantly educate herself on how to be there and present for those who are in grave need of emotional turmoil providing immediate resources if needed.

She has volunteered in many organizations: being a big sister in the Big Brother Big Sister Mentoring Program, AmeriCorps, Jersey cares, Caring contact, and teaching Sunday School at her current parish Saint Joseph the Carpenter. She is a proud Roman Catholic and believes in spreading the love of God through her work, education, and her communication with others. She believes that health & wellness go hand in hand because without one can negatively impact the other. Taisha’s passion is writing poetry.
